Kinesiology Treatment
(K-Taping)

Kinesiology taping (often referred to as K-Taping or KT tape) is a therapeutic technique that involves applying specially designed elastic tape to the skin. It is widely used in rehabilitation to support muscles and joints without restricting movement, relieve pain, and promote recovery. To achieve the best possible results from K-Taping, it would generally be used in conjunction with Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy.

How Does K-Taping Work?

K-Taping works by lifting the skin slightly to create space between the skin and underlying tissues. This space improves:

  • Blood flow – enhances circulation to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
  • Lymphatic drainage – helps reduce swelling by improving lymphatic flow.
  • Sensory feedback – stimulates nerve endings to reduce pain perception (neuromuscular feedback).
  • Support and Stability – provides muscle and joint support without restricting movement.

Benefits of K-Taping

  • Pain relief – reduces pain caused by muscle strain, joint issues, or overuse injuries.
  • Supports injured muscles and joints – provides stability and offloads stress from injured tissues.
  • Reduces swelling and inflammation – improves lymphatic drainage to decrease fluid buildup.
  • Enhances athletic performance – assists muscles during activity and reduces fatigue.
  • Improves posture and alignment – offers proprioceptive feedback to correct posture and alignment issues.
  • Promotes recovery – speeds up the healing process by improving circulation and reducing strain.

Paul’s treatments last from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

It is generally better to apply K-Tape after a massage as it can help maintain the benefits of soft tissue work, reducing pain and improving movement.  Massage also helps increase blood flow and reduce muscle tension, allowing K-Tape to be more effective.
